Arms Race
Arms Race is a nuclear arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union to develop more weapons and better weapons than the other. The major goal for both countries for Arms Race was to advance off of one another and create better weapons each time. The worlds First Atomic bomb was known as Fat Man it was a code name for the plutonium-core, implosion-type atomic bomb. The United States first tested it and then dropped it on Nagasaki Hiroshima in 1945. Unlike the United states the Soviet Union did not test their first atomic bomb until 1948. In 1952 the United States developed the worlds first Hydrogen bomb, this bomb could do a lot more damage then an atomic bomb, it was stronger and more powerful.
ICBM stands for intercontinental ballistic missile. A ballistic missile is a type of large and powerful missile designed to deliver a warhead across large distances to a predetermined target. The Soviet Union was one of the first country’s to use it in 1957. The United States developed the Minuteman missiles. They held the power to destroy civilization, but this destructive force also acted as a nuclear deterrent which maintained peace and prevented war. Today Russia still has more nuclear bombs then the United States. Russia has about ten thousand and the United States have about eight thousand five hundred.
